Why Free Hugs?

We were overwhelmed with the Free Hugs Campaign that started from Mr. Juan Mann. This is a really very meaningful campaign as we feel the same that the relationships between Malaysians are not getting close anymore. We have all the people passing by us everyday, but do we ever have the urge to say hi to them? A good example will be, do you even know your neighbors, the person that stays next to you?

But somehow, we feels that not because Malaysians not care enough to others. Just that, being a Malaysian, we don’t know how to show this on our face. We feel malu to do that! There’s no need to feel malu to show your cares to others.

In conjunction of the philosophy of Art for Grabs, ‘Celebrating every Malaysian's struggle for the freedom to shop, to imagine & to love’, we are here offering hugs to strangers. A simple hug can mean a lot!! We hope that we can send the message of care to everybody. We hope to take out the feeling of being malu to care among Malaysians. We hug!! And we spread loves!!!

We hope to collect 1000 hugs and signatures.

How to ‘free hugs’?

It’s easy! Prepare your own paper and markers (that you’ll be able to hold and sign), write the word ‘FREE HUGS’ on the front, and get the signatures of each person you’ve hugged on the back of the paper. When it reaches the number of 100, paste it on the wall provided (location yet to be confirmed). When it reached 1000, we are reaching our target!

During that 2 days, not all of us will doing ‘free hugs’ at the same time. As we need some to take pictures, some to hug, some to record, some to jaga the stall.

The Time and Place

Start Time: Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 12:00pm

End Time: Sunday, August 31, 2008 at 11:00pm

Location: The Annexe Gallery, Central Market Annexe

Street: Jalan Hang Kasturi

City/Town: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Things to bring

+ Around 3 pieces of paper (bout manila card size, not to thin, that you able to hold for a whole day, any color any material will do, it’s up to you!)

+ Few markers (NO red color as there’re some superstitious people do not like it)

+ Your own camera/ video camera if u have one

Notes

+ Since the event started around 12pm, be there from 11am-12pm to prepare ourselves.

+ Wear comfortable baju that able u to hug for the whole day.

+ RM10 (yet to be confirmed) will be collected from each of us. It is for printing purpose, if there’s money left, the remaining money will be used to buy food and drinks for the crew.
